When fueling your 96 and newer vehicles, turn the engine off until the fueling is complete.
Reason: The OBD2 system monitors the EVAP (Evaporative Emissions Control System). If the engine is running the MIL ( Malfunction Indicater Light) will illuminate. This will have to be turned off by your service center, generally costing $60.-$100. dollars.
ALSO: It is told that when fueling DO NOT get in and out of your vehicle. The friction caused by your clothes and the upholstry, can create Static Electricity. If discharged close to the filler nozzle (as when you reach for the nozzle)may cause a spark which can result in an explosion. Touch metal of your vehicle, away from the gas cap, prior to touching any area close to the nozzle.
